Letter grades can vary across grading environments, even when a student’s relative academic performance is similar. Our mission is to translate transcript records into percentile-based context so students, institutions, and evaluators can interpret academic performance with greater clarity.

The Student Performance Index (SPI) is a percentile-based measure that estimates a student’s relative performance across courses and displays that performance alongside traditional GPA.

This chart holds estimated percentile performance constant and shows how cumulative GPA could change under actual, best-case, and worst-case recent grading environments.

Methodology: Percentiles are computed from verified department rank data when a PERM number, course, and term match exists. Otherwise, estimates are computed by locating the student's letter grade within the historical grade distribution for each course-term combination. The Student Performance Index (SPI) is the weighted average of available verified or estimated percentiles. Missing quarters are preserved in the timeline to reflect actual elapsed academic time. How to Read This Page

This tool estimates an implied current threshold rather than an exact observed admissions cutoff.

The student marker is a current percentile-equivalent standing, not a raw average of historical course percentiles.

Uncertainty is shown directly when benchmark coverage is thin or the case is incomplete.

Purpose

Quarterly Rank CSV Intake

This portal allows authorized department staff to upload a CSV containing student-level rank-order data for department classes in a term. Accepted files improve performance context by allowing exact class-rank percentiles to supplement the public bucket-based estimates when an exact course, term, and perm number match exists.

This supplemental context is not a replacement for grades. It is a private measurement layer used to improve how academic performance context is computed and reported.

FERPA / Privacy Notice

This portal processes protected student education records. Upload only approved departmental rank-order files. Do not upload names, emails, SSNs, comments, notes, or unrelated student records. Perm number is the only permitted student identifier. This dataset must not be sent to AI models or external services.
